Protec leads in supplying solutions for Security Printing through innovative PVD machines and eco-friendly technologies. The eco-chromium plating process occurs automatically, using high-energy metallic ions and plasma to generate a multilayered thin-film nanotechnology deposit.

Parts destined for plating are treated in chambers equipped with magnetic levitation vacuum pumps and evaporation sources. These technologies find application on intaglio plates, printing cylinders, and coin die molds for proof/circulating. Since 2010, Protec’s PVD machines have been widely used in the banknote printing sector, replacing traditional galvanic chromium plating processes on intaglio plates.

This innovative PVD process ensures uniformity, reproducibility, and durability of intaglio plates, improving efficiency and reducing risks for workers while preserving the environment.

Two IPC models were designed to meet customer requirements based on productivity characteristics. The two systems, IPC 1100 and IPC 700, differ mainly in the chamber size and the technologies that can be installed. The environmentally friendly chrome-plating process is fully automated, using high-energy metal ions combined with a plasma environment in which a multilayer nano-film is deposited. Plates to be chrome-plated are loaded onto a patented rotating drum enclosed in a vacuum chamber with maintenance-free magnetic levitation vacuum pumps and ion evaporation sources.
