Abaco®

Nanotechnology for antibacterial, fungicidal and antiviral coatings in thin films

ABACO® is the latest generation of antibacterial thin film coatings that combines the strength, durability and beauty of PVD coatings with a guaranteed nanotechnology that offers exceptional antibacterial properties.

The antibacterial properties of Abaco® are essential to inhibit the proliferation of pathogens on the surface, which could cause infection.

These types of coatings are needed for all everyday objects that can come into contact with and be handled by people.

How does ABACO® work?

Thanks to innovative production processes developed by Protec, ABACO is able to not only completely inhibit the growth of bacteria, but also eliminate them, ensuring a perfectly hygienic surface.

This antibacterial efficiency, certified by precise laboratory tests, is due to the nano-inclusions in the complex architecture of the multilayer coating, which destroy the bacterial cell membrane by blocking its nutrition and interrupting the cell division cycle.

Antibacterial and antiviral action

The antibacterial action continues throughout the active life of the object and improves over time due to the physical properties of the coating.

Thanks to the antiviral action, the end result is a completely hypoallergenic product. In addition, according to DM 3/21/1973, the coating is completely safe for human contact.

Antibacterial colours and substrates

The antibacterial properties of ABACO® are combined with the aesthetic qualities of PVD coatings: hardness, UV resistance, high colour stability and scratch resistance.

The ABACO® coating can be applied to many different types of substrates: ferrous and non-ferrous metals, polymers such as ABS and polycarbonate (after appropriate pre-treatment).

Laboratory tests and certifications

The scientific validation test of ABACO® coatings was carried out by the University of Navarra (Spain) and the Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine of the University of Brescia (Italy), according to the reference standard JIS Z 2801 / ISO A12012.

This standard is the most rigorous and it is widely applied in the scientific community.

The efficacy of the ABACO® coating was tested against bacteria of the strains Escherichia coli (Gram negative) and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram positive), both belonging to the prevalent bacterial families most responsible for “contact infections”, with excellent results both on newly produced samples and on products that had been used over a long time.

The effectiveness of ABACO® against viruses has also been tested and certified according to the standards and recommendations of the international standard ISO-21702:2019 (First edition 2019-05-27).

These tests were carried out in the laboratories of the Institute of Biology at the University of Campinas, Brazil, one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

Antibacterial coating machines

The antibacterial PVD coating is an effective coating with several essential characteristics for humans.
Antibacterial, antiviral and fungicidal coatings combined in a single solution called ABACO.
This coating provides not only functional properties, but also aesthetic ones, as it is a PVD coating produced exclusively by our machines.
