Decorative coating thickness is usually lower than one micron and it is usually made at temperature below 300°C.

It is possible to change stoichiometry and deposited film structure obtaining a different colour of the same item changing process parameters, combining different evaporated metals (usually zirconium, titanium and chrome) and introducing reaction gasses into the chamber (usually nitrogen, methane or acetylene).
